Christmas is coming, and in the French Alps, that only means one thing, the beginning of the ski season.
With a heavy rainfall in November, things are looking good for a year with plenty of snow in the mountains, which is great news for avid skiers.
With the chalet and flights over booked, there is only one thing left on the to do list before you head out into the mountains. This of course, is to ensure that you have your prestige car rental for the duration of the stay. Something classy and robust is useful for the mountains, so in this article we will take a quick look at the difference between similarly priced Porsche and Mercedes in the 4x4 stakes. One slight spoiler alert, both are excellent cars.
Porsche posted record sales in 2013 and one of its most popular models was the Cayenne S. One of the German manufacturers’ SUV range, the Cayenne S offers a 400 horse power engine and in general is a fairly sporty SUV, which the company claims stems from its roots in motor racing, it accelerates from 0-100 km/ph in just five seconds. Spacious inside, the car offers 670 litres of boot space, plenty of room for the all important ski equipment. This Porsche hire is available with two different engines with Luxury & Services Rent, and customers can choose either to go with GTS or Turbo.
Another successful German manufacturer with a very high quality range of SUVs is Mercedes and the GLS 63 AMG is a great example of the type of quality produced in their range. With its 8-cylinder engine, 435 horse power engine, it is slightly more powerful than the Porsche Cayenne, but offers slightly less in the acceleration stakes and cannot reach quite as high a speed than its rival. This Mercedes is an excellent choice for those looking to bring plenty of equipment with them on holiday and has slightly more room in the boot than the Porsche. However, with a fuel consumption of 11.3 litres, the Mercedes is not as efficient as the Porsche, which has a consumption of 10.5 litres.
Both therefore have their plus and minus points, but they are essentially great choices which, as automatics, make mountain driving that extra bit easier. By producing quality vehicles like these, it is little wonder than the German car manufacturing industry appears to be going from strength to strength.
